Pentecostal Temple History
Minister Alex Smith started the ministry with a Radio Broadcast on WGTM radio station in Wilson, NC in 1987. In 1989, he began prayer in a mobile home in Greenville, NC. In 1990, they rented a storefront property on Mumford Rd. in Greenville , NC. The first service for Pentecostal Temple Holy Church of Deliverance was held on the first Sunday in July 1990. The service for the dedication of a new church and the service for installing Pastor Alex Smith were held on September 22, 1990. After renting the property on Mumford Rd. for five years, Pentecostal Temple Holy Church of Deliverance purchased property at 2753 West 5th Street in Greenville, NC where the church is currently located.
The membership has grown from eight members to approxiamately 200 members. Over the years, the ministry has grown to have a bus ministry purchased several vans, music ministry with three choirs, audio/video ministry, meals on wheels ministry, ministerial staff of 19, ministerial class, bible class, feeding the homeless, ministered to flood victims, evangelistic outreach ministry, women's ministry, men's ministry, youth outreach ministry, vacation bible school, help ministry, tutoring for high school students, residential service for at risk kids, and a child development center.
It has always been a vision and a desire of Bishop Smith, to be able to provide a food distribution center in our community. His vision came to pass in December 2004 when our Food Pantry opened. We did not realize how great the need was in our community. In these hard economic times, we have seen a tremendous increase in the number of families whom we serve each week. The families which we serve range from all different ethnic backgrounds. In 2006, we were contacted by an organization called Hope of Glory Ministries. This organization receives tractor trailers of donated items from food to toiletry items.
